Parent/Child Tasks & Related Tasks
Learn the difference between Parent/Child Tasks and Related Tasks in Titan Maintenance
Table of Contents
In Titan Maintenance, Tasks or Work Orders can be organized into Parent/Child relationships, or linked as Related Tasks.
In short, Parent/Child relationships are used when groups of tasks need to be managed together, and Related tasks are simply grouped for visibility purposes. This article and the graphic below compares the two different types of organization.
Parent/Child Tasks
Work orders that are grouped in a Parent/Child relationship are managed together.
- The Parent task will inherit the strictest SLA from its children.
- For example, if a Parent task has child tasks with 72, 48, and 24-hour SLAs, it will inherit the 24-hour SLA.
- Child tasks can progress simultaneously, even if they have different workflows and statuses.
- Child tasks can be unlinked or “orphaned” at any time throughout the parent's lifecycle.
- New Child tasks can be added to the Parent at any time.
- If a Child task is closed out, the Parent task will close out automatically.
- If a Parent task is closed out and one or more Child task remains open, open Child tasks will be unlinked from the parent and remain open.
Related Tasks
Related tasks are linked for visibility purposes only. SLAs are not inherited between related tasks, and no tasks are automatically closed or updated based on another work order's progression in the lifecycle.
