Parent & Child Task Management

A new way to group and manage related reactive tasks — with better visibility, bulk actions, and a cleaner task grid.

What's new
New Feature

Parent & Child Task Relationships

You can now group related reactive tasks under a single Parent task, giving you a clear overview of connected work and the ability to manage it all from one place.

A Parent task acts as a coordination hub — it tracks the progress of its children, shows a live completion count, and lets you take action across all of them without leaving the task.

  • Link existing tasks to a parent using the new Link Child Task option in the Actions menu, with filtering by site, supplier, and workflow to avoid mismatches.
  • Create a new child task directly from the parent — it's automatically linked on creation.
  • Unlink a child task at any time, either individually or in bulk from the Child Tasks tab.
  • A Children X / Y Complete rollup pill on the parent updates automatically as child statuses change.
  • The parent's SLA date always reflects the earliest SLA across all its children — this updates in real time as children are added, removed, or completed.
  • The parent auto-completes when all children reach a final status. Reopening a child reactivates the parent accordingly.
Parent & Child relationships are currently available for reactive tasks only. Scheduled task bundling is coming in a future release.

New Feature

Bulk Status Updates for Child Tasks

From the Child Tasks tab on a parent, you can select multiple child tasks and update their statuses in one action. The update flow walks you through any required questions, collecting shared answers once and applying them across all selected tasks.

  • Status Change tab — choose the target status for each group of selected tasks.
  • Shared Questions tab — answer site-level prompts such as safety hazard acknowledgement once for all tasks.
  • Grouped Questions tab — provide task resolution cause and remedy, applied across the selection.
  • Task/Asset Questions tab — complete asset condition surveys for assets linked to the selected tasks.

Workflow rules are respected throughout — if a transition is invalid for one or more tasks, you'll see a warning before proceeding.

Improved

Task Grid — Parent & Child Grouping Modes

The Task Summary grid now has two new toggle modes to help you see related tasks at a glance, without changing the flat list you're used to.

  • Group Parent and Child — clusters each parent with its child tasks in the grid. Hierarchy is indicated in the icon column; all rows remain flat with no indentation.
  • Parent and Single — shows only parent tasks and standalone tasks, hiding children for a high-level overview.
  • Parent and child icons appear in a dedicated column in all views. Hovering over a parent shows up to five child task references with their current statuses.

Task Timeline — New Relationship Events

The task timeline now records parent–child relationship changes, giving you a clear audit trail of when tasks were grouped or separated.

  • Parent Created — appears on the parent task when it's first established, and on the child task.
  • Child Linked to Parent (on the parent) / Child Linked (on the child) — recorded when a child is added to an existing parent.
  • Child Unlinked from Parent (on the parent) / Child Unlinked (on the child) — recorded when a child is removed.

These entries are filterable using the Show Only dropdown on the Timeline tab.
