Learn about updates made to the User Profile page in preparation for the new mobile application launching later this year.
Table of Contents
We have made several updates to the User Profile page in preparation for the new mobile application launching for beta testing on December 2nd. These changes are designed to make the first-time login process smoother and to strengthen overall account security. The information below is intended for both customer-facing communication and internal support use.
1. Primary Email (New Field)
- We have added a Primary Email field that will be used during the new password reset process in the mobile application.
- This field is required temporarily but will become optional shortly after December 2nd.
- Users who work across multiple clients (such as inspectors or service providers) add a fake email for now, such as asdfjkl;@test.com.
- After the field becomes optional, it can be left blank or ignored if the user does not have a primary email.
Why this change was made:
- To support the new password reset workflow in the upcoming mobile app.
- To increase security by ensuring users have a reliable identity verification point when resetting passwords.
2. Password Reset Link (New Feature)
A new Password Reset Link now appears on the User Profile page.
- This link will be functional starting December 2nd.
- Once active, administrators can copy and share the link directly with users, especially inspectors who service multiple clients, to help them reset their password independently.
Why this change was made:
- To provide a secure, self-service option for users to reset their password without requiring direct assistance.
- To reduce password-related support requests while increasing account security.
3. Change User Password (Existing Feature)
You may still update a user’s password manually within their profile.
- This option may be used if you prefer to set a password on the user’s behalf so they can access the new application immediately.
- This remains an alternative method for assisting users who cannot use the reset link.
Why this option continues to exist:
- To provide administrators and support teams with a flexible fallback method.
- To ensure users can still gain access even if they do not have an email or cannot receive reset instructions.
4. Notification Email Addresses (Unchanged)
The Notification Email section remains unchanged.
- Continue using this area to enter email addresses for report notifications, alerts, or other automated communications.
- This section is not connected to the new password reset process.
Why These Updates Are Important
With the launch of the new mobile app on December 2nd, all users will be required to reset their password the first time they log in.
The updates above support that transition and strengthen platform security in the following ways:
- Ensuring every user has access to a secure and verifiable password reset method.
- Reducing vulnerabilities by improving identity verification during login.
- Providing administrators with multiple options to help users complete their required password reset.
